Swedish Festival 2006

One delightful area holiday tradition is the Swedish Festival in Wildwood.

Members of the Scandinavian community open up their church for the traditional pageantry of the Santa Lucia Ceremony.

The celebration starts with the the Scandinavian Market, which opens at 2PM at the Fellowship Hall of the Lutheran Church of the Holy Trinity, Poplar and Atlantic Aves in Wildwood.

You'll find homemade jellies and soups, Swedish pancake mix, Scandinavian cheeses and Swedish cardamom bread, as well as local crafts and a quilt raffle.

At 4PM, the Lucia Pageant takes place in the Lutheran Church of the Holy Trinity.

After the procession with wizards, wisemen, trolls and the Lucia - a young woman wearing a garland of candles in her hair - everyone heads back over to the church hall for coffee and cake and the big Swedish Crafts and food festival.

If you go, there's parking behind the Church, at Poplar and Atlantic Aves in Wildwood.
