Freda's Cafe

This charming corner cafe has been delighting Cape May diners for over 15 years with its creative menu. Chef Steve Howard and pastry chef Carol Howard found their way to Cape May by way of the Plaza Hotel in New York. They brought along their big city approach to cooking and dining when they opened their cozy cafe on the corner of Ocean St and Carpenters Lane.

Perfectly cooked crab cakes with garlic mashed potatoes are one of the regulars' favorite dishes as is the well seasoned rack of lamb. Consider yourself lucky if seafood bisque is on the menu the night you dine here. Carol's desserts have acquired a following of their own - don't pass up the bread pudding!

The cafe also has a takeout deli on Carpenter's Lane where you can grab a salad, wrap or sandwich to go.

Stuffed Boneless Breast of Chicken en Croute Mozzarella, sundried tomatoes, spinach and portabella mushrooms $18.95 Paella A classic spanish dish that combines shrimp, scallops, crab, chicken and assorted vegetables with saffron rice. Garnished with mussels. Rack of Lamb Tender chops stuffed with a thin layer of chopped pine nuts, feta, and spinach. Seasoned with rosemary and peppercorns, served with a dijon mustard sauce. Shrimp and Scallops with fresh basil pesto over pasta $18.95 Chicken Flip A breast of chicken stuffed with crabmeat and a mushroom medley, with brie, encrusted with sweet and white potatoes. Served on a fresh cranberry sauce.
