Cape May Jazz Festival - April 20-22, 2007

Cape May, NJ - Pat Martino (right), named Downbeat Magazine’s “Guitar Player of the Year”, kicks off the 27th Cape May Jazz Festival - April 20th, 21st , and 22nd, 2007 at Cape May Convention Hall. Martino will lead a series of tributes to influential jazz guitarist Wes Montgomery.
Montgomery was a legendary musician whose dedication to innovative jazz guitar set the pace for Jazz during the sixties.
Other Tributes to Wes during the weekend include guitarists Teddy Royal, Bob Devos, and Brian Betz plus jazz vocalist Everett Greene with guitarist Royce Campbell.
Among the other featured performers over the weekend:
Terence Blanchard (above) opens the Saturday lineup at Convention Hall. The Grammy Award winner's soulful sound is on the cutting edge of hard-bop and other modern jazz styles.
Legendary Philadelphia bassist Charles Fambrough performs with his All-Stars Saturday night.
Omar Sosa performs Friday night. His native Afro-Cuban roots create a fresh and original Urban sound with a Latin jazz heart.
