February 2007 Best Bets

Posted 1/30/07

Early February continues the January lull. How sweet it is. But the activity starts up again around Valentine's Day, when sweethearts head for Cape May's local B&B's and restaurants. Before the town wakes from its winter slumber, enjoy the moment.

Take a Beach Walk

Take advantage of the long stretches of empty beach and go for it - - a walk to end all walks. It's one of our favorite things to do in the winter. You can walk all the way to the Lighthouse if you're feeling ambitious. Or just do a mile along the waterfront - any water front - ocean or bay.

For the adventurous, take a stroll through Higbee Beach's sand dune forest.

Take an Art Class

You've always had a secret desire to draw or paint or make a sculpture of some sort. Lucky for you the Center for Community Arts is sponsoring an incredible series of art classes this month and next. Learn the basics form some of the Cape May area's most talented artists and impress your friends with your newfound skills. Click below to see the schedule.

Be a Star

Whether you're rooting for Little Miss Sunshine or Clint Eastwood, dress up in your best duds and be seen at Cape May's annual Oscar Party Feb. 25th. The party's held in a Gatsby like mansion by the ocean. You'll mingle with other film afficonados, nibble Washington Inn goodies and sip fine wines, all for a good cause. The Oscar Party benefits the Cape May NJ Young Filmakers. Contact the Film Festival at (609) 884-6700 for tickets. $65 per person, $100 per couple.

Go to a Winter Film Series

Speaking of movies - couch potatoes - don't just sit in your living room - sit in the comfy seats in the Harrison Room in Congress Hall and watch the NJ State Film Festival's Winter Film Series. It's called Black and White and Boffo and features some classic black and white films. If you don't go for the films, go for the witty, off the cuff remarks before and after the screening by Hollywood screenwriter (and local resident) Joe Stinson.
