Cape May Best Bets - April 30 - May 6, 2007

Posted 4/30/07

Now's the time to dig that garden, do your spring cleaning, start that new project. But wouldn't you really rather spend an afternoon on a house tour, at an exhibit or looking at someone else's garden??

House Tours

Wouldn't you love to take a peek inside some of those homes you walk by in Cape May. Now's your chance. As part of the Spring Festival, the Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts is taking visitors inside private homes from the Colonial Era to the 20th Century. For $15 ($7.50 for children) you can be a voyeur for an afternoon. Tickets at the Washington St. Mall info booth.

Art Exhibits

Two new art exhibits open this week. One, by local artists Terri Amig and Reta Sweeney at the Mad Batter Restaurant, is called Better than Slides. It features a colorful mix of travel inspired and kitchen inspired works. See it in the dining room of the Mad Batter.

The second, by New York artists Doug and Mike Starn looks at nature in a new light - and with high tech cameras - and in large scale photos. See details of leaves, moths and other natural objets d'art. Sightings opens at the Noyes Museum May 1.

Garden Design

If you want that natural look in your garden, you're going to have to do a little planning. Get a jump start on things by attending the Nature Center's workshop: The Natural Garden: A Landscape Design Workshop. Saturday from 9AM until noon. In three hours you can design your very own wildlife garden plus take away a goodie bay of useful stuff. If the weather's nice, you might even see several local gardens that have done their planning. $20 members, $30 nonmembers. (609) 898-8848.
