Ocean City's Doo Dah Parade

OCEAN CITY, N.J. --- Ocean City's annual Doo Dah parade is a staple of the April events calendar.

The parade celebrates humor.

It features unusual brigades including bed rollers, Alphabet Soup, motorcycle and beach chair drill team contingents; impersonators of legendary comedians such as Abbott and Costello, Groucho Marx, Harpo Marx, Jack Benny, and Lucille Ball.

One of the highlights every year is the happy go lucky Basset Hound Waddle starring over 400 of the gentle, droopy eared canines.

Other Happenings

The Basset Hound Waddle, now one of the largest events of its kind in the country, raises money for the Tri-State Basset Hound Rescue League which assists distressed Bassets.

Parade categories include Brigades, Individuals, Miscellaneous, Basset Hounds, Twins and Signs and Banners.

The Pieasco is held on the boardwalk in front of the Music Pier at Moorlyn Terrace following the Parade.

Pieascoites sit in grandstands and when Soupy Sales gives the signal smoosh each other in the face with shaving cream pies, the kind Soupy used on his highly rated TV shows. All smooshers receive a certificate signed by Soupy signifying that they were indeed, smooshed.

To register, contact City Hall Annex, 901 Asbury Ave., Mondays through Fridays from 9AM - 4:40PM at (609) 525-9300.
