Cape May Hotel and Guest NightAugust 3, 2004 - Back in the '40's and '50's, before the era of television, the internet and cell phones, summer guests and hotel workers in Cape May would entertain each other with song and dance. That summer tradition's back. On Tuesday, August 10 at 8PM, the curtain rises for the 4th Annual Hotel and Guest Night Revived at the First Presbyterian Church of Cape May, on Hughes Street at Decatur. Carrying on the tradition this year will be singers Marcia Palmer of the Montreal Inn, Vivian Hwang of Cape Orient Restaurant, Congress Hall chanteuse and Quanda's VS Boutique manager, Lois Smith, and local youths Jessica Ross and Justin Coleman. Other performers include the vaudeville group Starlight Steppers and the Merry MACs, a singing group comprised of volunteers from the Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts (MAC). Maureen Gabbett and Derrick McQueen will return this year to co-emcee the evening. Depending on time constraints, there may be an open mic portion of the program as well. Other interested performers should call the Center for community Arts at (609) 884-7525. The event is a collaboration among MAC, East Lynne Theater Company, Cape May Stage and Center for Community Arts (CCA). East Lynne will present Diaries of Adam and Eve from their current production, Tales by Twain. CCA and MAC directors Steve Bacher and Michael Zuckerman will reprise their staged reading of Who's on First? with a twist; Cape May Stage will add to the fun. A goodwill offering will benefit CCA's Franklin Street School Rehabilitation Project. |
