Cape May Victorian Week

Cape May, NJ 09/28/04 - Every year in October, Cape May celebrates it's Victorian culture and heritage with ten days of house tours, parties, brass band concerts and fun.

Starting October 8, Cape May pulls out all the stops, with special events planned practically every day.

Some of the more popular traditional events include the Victorian house tours where you get a chance to take a peek inside some of the impressive private homes and bed and breakfast inns in Cape May.

There are also two old time Fashion Shows which include vintage fashions from the 1860's all the way to 1960.

Wheaton Village once again performs the time honored art of glassblowing on the gournds of the Physick Estate.

In addition to all the usual activities, this year the Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts is adding some new events:

Ladies Who Lunch Keynote
Ellen Christine, costume historian and curator of the “Ladies Who Lunch” exhibit on display in the Carriage House Gallery, talks about the clothing and accessories of the privileged Victorian woman.
A Tea Lunch and Lecture on Fashion Articles and Artifacts
Two Cape May fashion gurus and Victorian experts talk about clothing trends that have lasted from the Victorian time until now.
Halloween plants workshop
Lorraine Keifer, owner of Triple Oaks Nursery leads a workshop where visitors will create fragrant wall hangings of natural materials.
The Chocolate Fantasy Buffet
A buffet of delectable chocolate desserts hosted by Kathy Cressman, Executive Pastry Chef of the Washington Inn and Pelican Club

Catch a performance of a Victorian-style 'who done it's ?' during the Victorian Murder Mystery Dinner and Shows, as well as special performances by Cape May theater companies. (See all theater performances.)
