Cape May Jazz Celebrates Count Basie November 12-14

Cape May, NJ 11-01-04 - A celebration of the Count Basie Centennial opens this fall's jazz festival November 12 with Kendrick Oliver and The New Life Jazz Orchestra and vocalist Marlena Shaw.

The Jazz Festival, in its tenth year, runs from Friday November 12 to Sunday November 14.

Detroit jazz violin dynamo Regina Carter performs Saturday night while Oscar Brown, Jr., offers spontaneous drama and song, and Little Jimmy Scott does time-honored jazz ballads.

The Pelican Club Restaurant features guitar-playing vocalist Joyce Cooling Friday night and song stylist Renee Marieon Saturday night. Dinner reservations are required for the 9:15Pm performaces.

Louis Hayes and the Cannonball Adderley Legacy Band with Vincent Herring and Jeremy Pelt will honor the all-time hard-bop favorite and great jazz communicator.

Reggae band the Top Groovers perform in the Boiler Room at Congress Hall Friday and Saturday nights.

Master guitarists Sonny Rhodes and Ray Gomez will unleash the blues in Cabanas. Organists, Tony Monaco and Vince Seneri with percussionist Doc Gibbs, will perform at Carney’s.

Rounding out the lineup are the Festival All Star Band, trumpeter Wendall Shepherd's quartet, vocalists Deborah Brown from Georgia, Philadelphia's own Pearl Williams, and Keisa Brown.
