Watermelon Eating Contest

CAPE MAY, N.J. - One of the highlights of Cape May's Center for Community Art's annual Harvest Festival is the Watermelon eating contest.

Whoever eats the most most slices of watermelon wins.

It was clear from the get-go that each participant had his or her own style.

There were the in your face contestants who smashed ripe wedges of watermelon into their mouths.

Then there were the chompers who bit off as much as they could chew at one time

And the inhalers, who slurped slices as though there were no tomorrow.

Altogether, there were three separate contests - for those under 11, for those 11 to 14 and for adults.

The Festival takes place every year at the Rea Farm in West Cape May.

If you missed Saturday's contest, you have a whole year to get in shape for next year.
