Cape May Summer Garden Tours 2006
Posted 6/12/06 Cape May - The Cape May area has some of the prettiest gardens around and you get a chance to peek into a few during some upcoming tours of private gardens this summer. Saturday, June 17: Art in the Garden
Artist Anna Marie Zabielski is one of over 20 local artists and fine craftspeople who'll be exhibiting their works in private Cape Island gardens on Saturday, June 17. (You can see see the Cape May Times garden on the tour!) Get a map of the gardens with your ticket and enjoy both beautiful art and flowers at the same time. Admission is $15, ages 6-12 are $8, and children under 6 are free. Tickets may be purchased in advance or same day at Center for Community Arts, 712 Lafayette Street, Whale's Tale, 312 Washington Mall, and Cape May Nature Center, 1600 Delaware Avenue, or by calling (609) 884-7525. Rain date is June 18. The tour benefits the art, community history and historic preservation activities of the Center for Community Arts. July 6,7,8: Cape May County Butterfly Gardens
More butterfly and hummingbird gardens are tucked into Cape May County than probably anywhere else in the country. Do a caravan style tour with the Cape May Bird Observatory's Pat Sutton, as she traverses wildlife habitat created by local butterfly gardeners in Cape May County, from the tip of the Point to the Goshen area. The butterfly tours will take place on three days each month during July, August and September, from 10AM-3PM. Take one or take all three. (You can see see the Cape May Times garden on the tour!) Cost per tour: $20 members, $30 nonmembers Limit: 25. Call (609) 861-0700. July Tours: July 6, 7, 8 July 19: Margaret and David Rutherford's Garden 11:30AM. The Nature Center of Cape May sponsors this peak into the private Rutherford'garden. It's received a special designation as a "Stewardship Forest" by the State of New Jersey. Come sit under the trees for a discussion on propagating woody plants as well as a tour of their organic farm and gardens. Early registration is recommended. Cost: $15. July 20: West Cape May Garden Tour Take a self guided walking tour of West Cape May's gardens on Thursday, July 20, Thursday from 9AM to noon. Over a dozen private gardens will be open to teh public. Tickets $15. Sponsored by History Committee of West Cape May. Call Marie Iaconangelo (609) 884-4279 for more information. You can buy tickets at Cape Island Gardens on Broadway starting in June.
