2006 Cape May Designer Show House

Posted 7/11/06

Walk through this summer's Cape May Designer Show House and you get a definite mystical air. The show house is actually three units - all housed in what used to be the Franklin Street Church, built in 1879.

This year's designers used the church's architectural features to advantage - playing up ecclesiastical windows, gothic archways and soaring 15 and 27 foot ceilings.

Some of the three units used re-leaded stained glass. The church's original bell tower is now a library.

While the stylish furnishings themselves are worth the price of admission, it's the ornate wooden window frames, the exposed truss beams, and the integration of the building's past and present that make this a must see in Cape May this summer.

The Show House is open daily, from 10AM to 3PM through Sunday, September 17. Tickets are $25. All Show House visitors will receive a keepsake program book.

The project is sponsored by the Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts. Tickets can be purchased at the door, at Franklin and Lafayette Streets.
