Tiles for Tomorrow
Posted 7/17/06 If you've always wanted to learn how to make tiles, now's your chance. Artist Susan Ross (above) and the Center for Community Arts are holding free tile making sessions most weekdays (except Monday) through August 25.
The tiles will be part of a new community mural Ross has designed for the Center's Franklin Street School.
One recent morning, Susan and friends were hard at work at the Cape May Elementary School, cutting out hundreds of clay tiles that will one day be pieces of the sea, sky and sand in the seashore mural.
The finished pieces looked like racks and racks of unbaked cookies. Once the tiles are made, the glazing will start.
If you'd like to join in this community effort and learn about tile making at the same time, contact the Center for Community Arts at (609) 884-7525 to sign up for one of the sessions.
