Cape May Food and Wine Festival, September 16-21, 2006

Cape May, NJ - Foodies and chefs mingle and munch through a five day long festival of food and wine each September in Cape May.

From September 16 to 21, visitors can enjoy winery tours and tastings, a five-course beer tasting dinner, gourmet luncheons at some of Cape May’s best restaurants, Chef’s Dine-Arounds and the popular People’s Choice Chowder Contest.

The festival begins with a visit to the award-winning Cape May Winery, 711 Town Bank Road in North Cape May, Saturday, Sept. 16.

Saturday evening, the festival continues with the Old-Fashioned Cape May Picnic & Revival, a picnic supper with a twist: Members of the Eternal Sword Temperance Union will perform their patented brand of music and boisterous barroom comedy. The picnic takes place at 6PM at the Emlen Physick Estate. Admission is $45 per person.

On Sunday, Sept. 17, it’s the Gourmet Marketplace, with samplings and product information offered by some of Cape May’s premier restaurants and other sponsors. The event is from noon to 4PM at the Cape May Winery, where guests can take a vineyard tour, sample the best chowders this harbor town has to offer, vote for their favorite in the Peoples Choice Chowder Contest, and cheer on their favorite chefs in the Chefs’ Cook-Off. Admission is $25.

On Tuesday, Sept. 19, a five-course Beer-Tasting Dinner at Aleathea’s Restaurant features America’s beer authority Gary Monterosso, who will be on hand to discuss the different pairings of beer and food. Admission is $65.

Chef’s Dine-Arounds allow visitors to enjoy a single meal at five different Cape May restaurants. This progressive dinner includes five courses, and wine with each course. A winery representative will be on hand to discuss the pairings.

A trolley shuttle will provide door-to-door service. Admission is $100 per person, gratuity included. Sunday to Thursday, Sept. 17-21,

Gourmet Luncheons are also offered Sunday to Thursday at 12:30PM at a different Cape May restaurant each day. Luncheons are $20 per person.

Participating restaurants for this year’s Food & Wine Festival include: the Washington Inn, the Ebbitt Room, the Blue Pig Tavern, the Moonfish Grill, the Promenade Café, Aleathea’s, and the Mad Batter.
