Memorial Day 2009

Posted 5/18/09
Cape May, NJ — Memorial Day is like a bugle at a horse race - It announces the start of something that's going to go by very, very quickly. In this case, we're talking summer.
So let's not waste time. We'll get right to it. We only have three months left. What's happening on this kick off to summer weekend?
Cape May Arts
Lots of arts type stuff in Cape May, for starters. Cape May Stage opens its offiicial season with Souvenir.
The Cape May Music Festival presents the Atlantic Brass Band with a fun rendition of patiotic favorites.
And there are art exhibits and openings in both Cape May and Stone Harbor:
If crafts and antiques are more your thing, head over to the Crafts Festival from 10AM-4PM Saturday at the Emlen Pnysick Estate.
Wildwood Kites
Anyone who likes kites better make a stop in Wildwood.

It's Wildwood's Annual International Kite Festival - watch expert kite flyers from around the world fly larger than life kites on the beach at Rio Grande Ave. near the Wildwood Convention Center for three days.
Avalon Stone Harbor Parades
Of course, what'a holliday without a parade. Head up to Stone Harbor or Avalon for an old fashioned march through town.
Cape May Remembers
In keeping with the holiday - you can attend a Memorial Day ceremony at the Columbia Ave. monument in Cape May Monday at 9AM.
Later, at noon, watch as the Coast guard tows a small boat with flowers out to sea and a helicopter drops a wreath into the ocean, all in memory of those who've fought in our nation's wars.
