Topic: Scaup Rafts in Avalon

Yesterday, I saw several large rafts of scaup along the beaches in Avalon.  One raft was seen from the 8th street jetty - many of the scaup were Greater Scaup. Also seen, 4 male Redheads and 1 female Redhead, Long-tailed Ducks, 1 Horned Grebe, Common Loons and Red-abcde Mergansers.  I continued down the coast in Avalon and observed one raft of 1,000 scaup as well as several other rafts of 100+ ducks.  There was 1 White-winged Scoter among the scaup.  I've never seen that many rafts of ducks before.  Beautiful to see.  At 21st Street there were 43 Purple Sandpipers feeding on the beach with Dunlin and Sanderling.  I only was able to bird to 30th Street so I may have missed other ducks to the south.
