Topic: knowing the rules, my personal rant

My wife and I were in Cape May last week for a little f&r....fishing and relaxing, on our way down we stopped in north Wildwood to try our luck. KOODOS to cape may Ray!!!! Got some action with gulp baits, my first time actually catching someting other than a skate or dog fish. ( a few small sea bass...throwbacks).  As a fisherman i know not every trip out is going to produce keeper fish, but it's still nice to get out and to be by the water for a while and just fish. Unfortinatly not everybody seems to know or care about the fishing regulations!! Whenever I fish somewhere new I always will hit a bait shop to find out the basics, rules,  regulations, size limits...etc. It's becoming more apparant that not everyone cares, or believes in following the same guide lines. There were to guys from Quebec fishing on the beach by me and catching fluke, but they were only 5 or 6 inches at best, and THEY WERE KEEPING THEM!!! Needless to say i was a little more than mad, so I walked over to them and as politly as I could told them that the fish they had were illegal to keep. They acted like they didn't understand english. So I tried calling a game warden, and waited and waited, but none came and the guys left with 6 short fluke that nobody will be able to catch when they mature!!!! Is it any wonder why the size regs keep going up and the bag limit is dropping, or that places that use to produce good fishing are not anymore. It ticks me off I was taught to only keep what you will eat, and to respect and help others. I have no problems helping anyone when I'm fishing. It's good for the sport that so many of us are so passionate about. But when other people come from wherever and just don't care enough to find out the local regulations it hurts us all. It's going to come down to there won't be any fishing season, and it's going to hurt alot of people who rely on fishing for there livelyhood, and that's something we should all worry about.

When people fail to follow regulations it hurts all of us. Your only hope is that eventually they get caught. I was out last year on the jetty by the ferry terminal when some game wardens walked right to a group and escorted them off of the jetty. I asked one of the wardens what was going on. he informed me that the group was being wathced and they were keeping shorts. I don't know what the edn result was, but I do know the wardens kept their tackle.
All we can do is the right thing. You did that.

Glad the gulp baits worked for you and you had some fun.   It does hurt when people do not follow the rules.   You should report them to the game officials.    They usually will respond when called.   I carry their number.   Many times they have a lot of ground to cover with only a small force.
