New York to Cape May by BusPosted 07/20/05
A simple yes would have done it, but the question took me back to the Port Authority on a Friday night, a few years ago, waiting in line for a bus that would get me out of the city and to Cape May. Suddenly, I had an overwhelming urge to analyze NJ Transit's latest NYC schedule. (See on the right) Even former commuters get a rush when they find the express bus in the crowd. I was positively ecstatic when I discovered you could shave as much as an hour and a half off the trip between NYC and Cape May. It's all in when you leave. When to leave NYCIf you can take off a weekday (or two), take the 7:30AM bus out of the Port Authority - it will get you to Cape May in 4 hours and 20 minutes. If you can't leave NYC until Saturday, pass up the super early buses and wait for the 9:15AM - it takes only 3 hours and 49 minutes to get to Cape May! When to leave Cape MayThere's no doubt about it, Sunday is the best day for traveling from Cape May to New York. You have two choices: either the 11:20AM or the 4:20PM. Both take just 3 hours and 49 minutes to get to New York. (There are later buses, if you just can't pull yourself away from the beach. But the last bus of the evening takes more than 5 hours to roll into the PA. ) SuggestionsPersonally, I would take Friday off and jump on the 7:30AM bus out of the Port Authority. I'd take the 4:20PM bus back on Sunday afternoon. If I were coming for a week, I'd jump on the 9:15AM bus either Saturday or Sunday. I'd catch any bus going back to the city the following weekend. After a week in Cape May, who pays attention to things like bus schedules anyway.
