No Tornado

Cape May, NJ – Cape May and the rest of South Jersey watched and waited for a possible tornado Monday, but the area escaped wtih just some much needed rain.

This was the view along the beachfront as the leading edge of the storm front slid over the island late in the afternoon.

The National Weather Service had posted a tornado watch for all of New Jersey yesterday morning.  No tornadoes ever materialized. Some NJ counties up north did get hit with strong winds.

Update: National Weather Service now says a tornado with 100 mph winds did hit Paramus in Bergen County, NJ, Monday.

According to the Cape May Times rain gauge, the storm system dropped four tenths of an inch of rain on the area. It was the first real rainfall here in almost a month.

The front also brought a ten degree drop in temperatures. Time to say good bye, finally, to August in October.
