Empanada Mama Opens in Cape May

West Cape May, NJ – Fans of Empanada Mama’s won’t have to wait until the summer flurry of farmers markets and festivals for a tasty empanada or two.

This weekend, the empanada business opened its first bricks and mortar store, on Park Boulevard in West Cape May.

Owner Brooke Dodds did not seem to mind the fact that she was opening her fledgling food shop in the middle of January, when many Cape May area restaurants and shops are taking a winter hiatus.

She was too busy taking orders for her Beef and Caramelized Onions empanadas and her creamy Spinach and Artichoke empanadas.  In all, Empanada Mama is offering almost a dozen different savory and sweet fillings. Also on the menu – fritattas with your choice of ingredients – spinach, chorizo, beans, peppers, onions.  There are gluten free offerings.  And for purists, a nice warm plate of rice and beans.

Brooke knows a lot of people in the area. She worked at both Gecko’s and George’s restaurants before creating Empanada Mama’s. This weekend many locals who’ve followed her culinary career and who have been her loyal customers at the West Cape May Farmer’s Market were the first ones in the door.

Empanada Mama’s Cantina offers both eat in and take out service. The shop will be open every day except Sunday from 9AM to 4PM.
