Cape May Foodie: 2015 Prix Fixe at Peter Shields

CAPE MAY, NJ -    What a pleasant surprise.  Tuna Tartare. Monkfish wrapped in bacon.  Warm English pudding.  All served Sunday on a special prix fixe menu at the Peter Shields Inn. Cost? $29.

From now until the end of March, the elegant Peter Shields is dishing up a changing, three course prix fixe menu every Sunday, Monday and Thursday night. This is not an early bird. The menu is available all night.  You can choose from one of three appetizers, entrees and desserts.

In addition to the monkfish, we tried the Butter Poached Shrimp with homemade fettuccine, prosciutto and peas.   Meat lovers could have opted for the New York strip steak with truffle aioli. Remember, the menu changes weekly.

Sorry weekend folks – not available Friday or Saturday nights. Might be worth staying an extra night?  Locals – jump on this while you can.

If March is out of the question, the restaurant will be offering a new $40 prix fixe dinner in April. In May, it’s back to the regular menu for the season.

I’d go back just for the dessert – warm English date pudding in a pool of caramel sauce with vanilla ice cream.    Oh yes.
