Last Year's Convention: The New Jersey State Firemens Convention - Wildwood's largest convention- will draw more than 35,00 firefighters and their families along with 50,000 additional visitors this weekend to the Wildwoods.
The Greater Wildwoods Tourism Improvement and Development Authority will host the convention at the new Convention Center. Five Mile Beach Firemens Convention Association will host the firemens parade and outdoor exhibits.
Fire Equipment on Display
Displays featuring the latest and greatest in firefighting equipment will be at Fox Park, Davis and Ocean Avenues, as well as at locations surrounding the old Convention Center at Ocean Avenue from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Friday, September 13 and from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Saturday, September 14. Donations at the gate will support the Delaware Valley Burn Foundation.
A moving exhibit of fire apparatus, equipment and manpower will take place in the form of Saturdays parade, featuring new and antique trucks, firemen and approximately 20 bands. An estimated 240 fire companies will compete in the parade.
Over 300 pieces of apparatus will represent New Jersey Fire districts, while the remaining entries will come from Pennsylvania, Delaware and Virginia.
This years parade Grand Marshall will be Arlieen Franco, Chairperson, GWTIDA Board of Directors. The parade will begin at 1p.m. and travel north on New Jersey Avenue from Crocus Road to 8th Avenue. For additional information about the parade call 609.522.4222.
Registration for trucks will be at the Anglesea Firehouse located at 2nd and New Jersey Avenues on Friday from 1 p.m. until 6 p.m. and on Saturday from 8 a.m. until parade time at 1 p.m.
This year the Five Mile Beach Volunteer Firemens Association, along with the American Red Cross, will be hosting two blood drives. The first will be held on Thursday, September 12th in the new Wildwoods Convention Center from 3 p.m. 8:30 p.m. in ballrooms A & B. The second blood drive will be held on Friday, September 13th from 7 a.m. 12:30 p.m. at the same location. For further information regarding the blood drive please contact 800-GIVE-LIFE.
