Fiftie's Music headlines North Wildwood concerts
Posted 07/12/05 NORTH WILDWOOD, NJ - Barbershoppers and the music of the 1950s will headline the entertainment on separate dates in upcoming free performances of North Wildwood’s 22 concert outdoor series at the amphitheater at Ocean and Second Avenues. The Dovells, who have sold 5 million records, 15 albums and have appeared on television and in movies, will perform on Saturday night, July 16. Consisting of Jerry Gross and Mark Stevens, the Dovells have performed in major concert halls, hotels and nightclubs throughout the world. Among the hit songs from their era have been “The Bristol Stomp,” “The Hully Gully” and “Do The New Continental” On the following Thursday night, July 21, the barbershop groups, Cape Shore Chorus and the Cape May Harmonaires, will share the stage for an evening of barbershop music. Both performances are at 8 p.m.
The 16-year-old Cape Shore Chorus will come to North Wildwood after having won the title of most improved chorus and having finished third in regional competition at Ocean City, Maryland. Under the direction of Sharon Miller for the past 4 years, the chorus consists of 28 women from Cape May, Atlantic, Cumberland and Camden Counties. The Cape May Harmonaires Chorus, under the direction of Carol Johnson, is 15 years old and, like the Cape Shore Chorus, is in large demand for appearances throughout South Jersey. This will mark the first time in several years that the 2 groups will appear on the same bill together.
