Wildwood's Polar Plunge
Posted 01/14/07 The Fraternal Order of Police sponsored Wildwood's first annual Polar Bear Plunge Saturday to benefit New Jersey's Special Olympics.
Whille the plungers were bracing for a typical January ocean, what they got was more like April. Temperatures were close to 60 degrees, with water temps hovering around 50 degrees. It was so balmy, many of the plungers lingered for a while in the salt water instead of making a mad dash back to shore for their towels and clothing.
If you missed this year's event, mark your calendar - the Law Enforcement sponsored Polar Plunge will be back on Wildwood's beach next January for another round. All the proceeds from the plunge go for year-round sports training and athletic competition for children and adults with intellectual disabilities.
