Wildwood Crest Polar Bear PlungeEvery March, dozens of men and women shed their winter coats and run into the bracing ocean water at Wildwood Crest's Jefferson Avenue beach.
They are honoring a former Wildwood Crest resident and lifeguard, Andrew Alameno, who perished in the September 11th attack on the World Trade Center. Alameno was a trader for Cantor Fitzgerald. The money raised by the polar Plunge benefits the Andrew Alameno Scholarship Fund at Wildwood Catholic High School. Alameno was a 1982 graduate of the school.
The Polar Plunge for Andrew is Wildwood Crests connection to the Unity in the Spirit of America (USA) initiative, a volunteer program created to help Americans remember those lost on September 11, 2001. If you'd like more information, call Lisa Fitzpatrick at (609) 729-0048. |
