Sunday's Cruise for Loons on the Skimmer yielded excellent views of Common Loons in or nearly in full breeding plumage. Numbers were good with over 20 birds sighted. Other notable sights included a marbled godwit (see post below), a nice flock of whimbrel, numerous expected shorebirds, tri-colored heron, and lotse of egrets in the heron rookery near Sunset Lake. The water was extremely clear as well. With the exception of brant, most wintering waterfowl were not present.
